Website Accessibility: Section 508 updates take effect Jan. 18, 2018
Updates to Section 508, part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, go into effect January 18, 2018. These updates require that certain websites meet all WCAG 2.0 A and AA standards. Federal government, state and local government, companies who do business with a federal agency, and federally funded programs are all websites accountable under WCAG 2.0 standards.
So what is Web accessibility? According to the World Wide Web Consortium, accessibility means that “people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web.”

Twice Your Tweet
Last week Twitter doubled its character limit—going from 140 to 280 characters. Twitter's research found that with more characters, users Tweeted more easily and more often. Additionally, users reported an increase in engagement and followers. But will this trend continue? Probably not.
Twitter recorded that users still prefer Tweets under the 140 character mark, reporting that only 5% of tweets in the test group used more than 140 characters. week Twitter doubled its character limit—going from 140 to 280 characters.
Does Your Website Need a Secure Certificate?
Changes in the newest version of the Chrome browser may deter users from filling out simple forms on your website. Chrome will generate a “not secure” warning when a user is typing information into a Web form—unless your website is running under a secure certificate (https://).
While Chrome’s updates are intended to better protect interactions between users and websites, the “not secure” warnings may affect your users’ trust in the perceived security of your website.
